The reading of the judgment was initially scheduled for July 1. However, it was postponed to today after the panel of judges decided to upgrade the charge from qualified homicide to aggravated qualified homicide due to the use of a knife in the crime.
The 24-year-old man was on trial for an aggravated qualified homicide, committed in a local accommodation in the city in April 2024.
According to the prosecution, the defendant and the victim, both foreign nationals, traveled together to Porto and stayed in a local accommodation in the Bonfim area. For unknown reasons, the suspect allegedly decided to kill his friend and dispose of the body, having researched on the Internet and bought a ticket to another country.
The day before, to execute his plan, the accused allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times with a kitchen knife, targeting the head, torso, arms, and especially the neck, according to the prosecution.
Additionally, the suspect allegedly bit the victim on the chest, right arm, and tore off the thumb.
That same night, the accused reportedly purchased a large travel bag to transport the body, disposed of the victim’s belongings, cleaned the apartment, and disconnected the surveillance camera.
He subsequently called a rideshare driver, asking to be taken to the airport. During the trial, the rideshare driver testified that on the way, the accused explained what had happened and offered a large sum of money for help.
Realizing that the story might be true because the man was carrying a large bag in the trunk and had injuries on his hands, the driver decided to go to a PSP police station.
