A 19-year-old university student stands trial, accused of allegedly damaging clothes belonging to the then Democratic Alliance (AD) candidate and current Prime Minister, a CDS photographer, and a police officer on duty at the FIL event on February 28, 2024.
During the trial, Vicente Fernandes claimed that the paint used was washable and that he had no intention of causing damage to the clothing.
In the final arguments, the Public Prosecutor’s Office called for the defendant’s conviction without specifying the penalty, while the defense argued for acquittal.
Under the Penal Code, the crime of damage is punishable by imprisonment for up to three years or a fine.
Luís Montenegro is also seeking compensation of 1,750 euros from the activist for the damages incurred, while the CDS photographer seeks 450 euros.
The verdict is scheduled to be read at 3:00 p.m. at the Lisbon Local Court for Minor Crime.
