Activists protest in Lisbon: “We will stop planes to cut emissions”

Following a nearly 40-minute march that halted traffic near the Relógio roundabout, the demonstrators sat on the road at 4:40 PM, without blocking access to Humberto Delgado Airport.

The initiative, organized by the environmentalist group Climáximo, commenced at 3:00 PM with a gathering at the Relógio roundabout, followed by a march towards the airport.

Upon reaching the airport area, the activists were prevented by the Public Security Police (PSP) from completing their protest in the airport’s lobby, resulting in them sitting on the road leading to one of the access points, without affecting passenger departures or arrivals.

In response to the situation, PSP Superintendent Bruno Marques issued an ultimatum to the activists, stating that he would begin issuing orders to disperse them to maintain public order.

The PSP acknowledged the potential use of force if the protesters failed to comply with police orders, which ultimately was not necessary.

The activists chanted, “Let’s stop the planes to cut emissions.”
