AD program? “There are no measures to lower housing prices”

This Friday, MEP Catarina Martins voiced criticism of the electoral program of the AD-Coligação PSD/CDS for the upcoming legislative elections, highlighting the absence of “measures to reduce housing costs”.

“What I find very striking is Luís Montenegro’s promise that the national minimum wage will reach 1,100 euros by 2029—considering the time still left—when a two-bedroom apartment in Lisbon already costs 1,200 euros today,” Catarina Martins noted during an interview with Now channel.

The former leader of the Left Bloc further highlighted that Luís Montenegro “has no measures to lower housing prices”.

“In fact,” she added, “he insists on fiscal mechanisms that recent times have proven to be ways to increase and not decrease housing costs. Regarding salaries, there is a continued notion that it’s normal for wages to be lower than the cost of a home. This is the major issue,” she stated.

It should be noted that the president of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Luís Montenegro, introduced the AD-Coligação PSD/CDS electoral program, which includes various measures such as the increase in the national minimum wage and reductions in corporate and personal income taxes.
