Adherence to the strike shows “profound discontent” of the workers

The union expressed a “deep discontent with the policy of impoverishment” in a statement released today.

“The high participation in the National Public Administration Strike, organized by the Frente Comum, which continued to impact this morning,” significantly affected “many municipal services,” highlighting “a strong mobilization, unity, and determination of the workers to continue the fight for their rights and for their wage and professional valuation.”

As reported by STAL, the strike led to the closure of many services across most municipalities and municipal companies, including parish councils, yards, workshops, water and sanitation services, schools, kindergartens, urban collective passenger transport, swimming pools, inspection, libraries, operational sectors, treasuries, and administrative and customer services.

“The data known from Local Administration so far reflect a great willingness to fight and the deep discontent of the workers in face of the lack of effective response from the PSD-CDS government to their problems and demands,” stated STAL.

These demands include increases of no less than 15%, with a minimum of 150 euros for all, a base salary of 1,050 euros, and a meal subsidy of 12 euros, among other demands.

STAL mentioned that 2026 will see a further degradation of the purchasing power of Public Administration workers, particularly those in Local Administration, where salaries are lower, with a “salary update of 2.15%, a rate far below what is necessary to recover the purchasing power lost since 2009 and to cope with the increasing cost of living.”

STAL also urged workers to participate on November 8 in the “National March against the Labor Package,” organized by CGTP-IN in Lisbon, “to fight against the proposed changes to labor legislation presented by the Government, which represent a real ‘assault’ on workers’ rights, aiming to satisfy employers who wish to have disposable workers with miserable wages.”
