ADN considers “positive” the agreement for an absolute majority in Madeira

Miguel Pita, a candidate from ADN who aimed to be elected to “do what has not yet been done,” secured only 691 votes (0.48%) in the early regional legislative elections held on Sunday.

“ADN expected more, expected to be elected,” he admitted during a phone interview with Lusa.

However, the Madeira electorate chose to “deal the same cards, everything remains the same,” he lamented, describing the elections as “completely unnecessary.”

PSD won the elections in Madeira, with 43.43% of the total votes, but fell short by one deputy of achieving an absolute majority.

CDS-PP, which has previously formed parliamentary agreements with PSD, succeeded in electing a representative.

Therefore, Miguel Pita foresees the formation of a PSD/CDS-PP absolute majority, which he considers “positive” to avoid holding elections “every six months or year by year.”

Even though this agreement might not be “the best solution” for Madeira, it would at least ensure “four years of stability and put an end to political games,” he highlighted.

Miguel Pita also urged for “more responsibility in the Assembly [Legislative Assembly of Madeira], to consider the interests of the people rather than political party interests.”

A hotel manager by profession, Miguel Pita was a candidate for Chega in a parish council in 2020 and in the national legislative elections of 2022.

In 2023, he joined ADN and led the party’s list in its debut in Madeira’s legislative election, being the least voted candidate, with 617 votes (0.47%).

In the early elections on May 26, 2024, he slightly increased his votes, obtaining 772 votes (0.58%), but this Sunday, it decreased again, although ADN outperformed PPM and Nova Direita.

PSD secured victories in 10 of the 11 municipalities in Madeira and achieved an absolute majority in five, according to data provided by the Secretariat-General of the Ministry of Internal Administration.

JPP-Juntos Pelo Povo emerged as the second most voted political force (21.05%), surpassing PS (15.64%), followed by Chega, which elected three deputies, while IL and CDS-PP each secured one.
