The Higher School of Education of Viseu expressed deep sorrow on Sunday over the passing of Maria Pedro, a 20-year-old Madeira native, who died on Saturday in a motorcycle accident in Viseu.
“The Higher School of Education of Viseu deeply regrets the passing of student Maria Inês Furtado Pedro, a student in the Social Communication program. Maria Pedro was known for her sweet, respectful, and well-mannered nature. Faculty and students in the program will always remember the gentle smile of the student and colleague with whom they had the privilege of sharing the classroom for three years. Maria Pedro will continue to be part of our program’s history and will be remembered by all, today and always,” stated the school’s Facebook page.
A man was seriously injured in the same accident.
According to a source from the GNR Territorial Command, the accident occurred around 1 a.m. on Saturday in Cabanões de Baixo, on National Road 231.
A source from the Viseu Dão Lafões Subregional Emergency and Civil Protection Command confirmed that the death was declared on-site.
The seriously injured person was transported to Viseu Hospital, it was added.
GNR, Viseu Firefighters, and a Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) were on site, totaling 16 personnel and eight vehicles, it was indicated.
