The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) launched a new communication campaign on Friday aimed at “raising public awareness of copyright and related offenses,” which includes accessing illegal and paid-for content.
In a statement distributed to newsrooms, the authority explained that “audiovisual piracy impacts not only the economy but also the safety of its users.”
“In addition to undermining the industry’s sustainability, it also endangers user security by exposing them to the sharing of personal data and potential theft,” it warned.
This campaign, part of the PJ’s ongoing efforts to combat cybercrime and protect copyright, will utilize various media, including television and social networks.
Two films will be released, creatively directed by the agency Tux&Gill and produced by Trix Produção Audiovisual, under the slogan ‘It’s not just a game. It’s a crime. Are you a criminal?’
“Audiovisual piracy is not a victimless crime. It affects thousands of professionals and puts users at risk, exposing them to cyberattacks and personal data theft,” the PJ emphasized.
The authority reaffirmed its commitment to investigating and countering this type of crime, relying on the collaboration of national and international entities in the fight against digital piracy.
Additionally, it encouraged citizens to choose legal streaming services and to report illegal platforms through their official channels.
