A week of hot and dry weather is anticipated, lasting until Thursday, April 10, when temperatures are expected to drop, and rain and wind are forecast to return to mainland Portugal, according to the forecast by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
As stated by the IPMA, following a “rainy weekend with lots of cloudiness and mild temperatures,” the week from April 7 to April 13 “begins with dry weather and a significant rise in temperatures, well above the usual values for this time of year.”
The “hot weather is expected to persist until mid-week, followed by a gradual decrease in temperatures starting Thursday, April 10.”
Regarding precipitation, the Institute notes that “a depression centered north of the Azores will move toward the Madeira archipelago during the week, approaching the mainland from Thursday onwards, bringing rain and showers, as well as an increase in wind intensity.”
The anticipated temperatures are expected to be “above or significantly above the usual values for this time of year,” particularly north of the Montejunto-Estrela mountain range.
Thus, according to the IPMA, the maximum temperature is projected to range between 16°C and 28°C in the interior regions of the North and Center, vary between 19°C and 26°C in the southern region, and reach a maximum of 18°C to 28°C in coastal areas. The minimum temperature in the mainland is expected to range between 6°C and 11°C in the interior North and Center regions, between 6°C and 13°C in the South, with coastal areas expected to see minimums between 11°C and 16°C.

The total weekly precipitation and the average weekly temperature will have “above normal values” in mainland Portugal during the month of April.
