As the year draws to a close, many are already looking ahead to 2026, with most pensioners expected to see a pension increase of approximately 2.8%, according to data from the Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE).
This rate is calculated based on the inflation data from November, which was released last week. This was the final piece needed to complete the pension adjustment formula.
According to the statistics agency’s quick estimate, the average inflation over the last 12 months, excluding housing, for November was 2.27%. This allows for the automatic pension adjustment next year, using a formula that also considers the average annual GDP growth rate over the past two years.
Thus, based on these two indicators, pensions up to two IAS (1,073.94 euros), where most pensioners fall, will increase by 2.8% in the coming year.

DECO PROteste explains that “if INE’s estimates are confirmed, the social support index should rise from 522.50 euros in 2025 to 537.13 euros in 2026,” so pension increases could reach:
- 2.8% for pensions equal to or less than 1,074.26 euros;
- 2.3% for pensions greater than 1,074.26 euros and up to 3,222.78 euros;
- 2% for pensions greater than 3,222.78 euros and up to 6,445.56 euros.
The consumer protection organization emphasizes that, “despite the November inflation rate estimated by INE already being known, these calculations will only be finalized in mid-December,” so “these figures might not yet be final”.

A significant portion of pensions will have an update of 2.77% next year, based on calculations from the data released this Friday by the Instituto Nacional de Estatística (INE).

Will the bonus be paid again?
Additionally, it is noteworthy that “a new extraordinary supplement for pensioners might be paid next year,” similar to what occurred in 2025, as the “measure is outlined in the State Budget for 2026, yet it depends on the fiscal execution’s progress next year”.

The Parliament approved a proposal that foresees the Government once again paying the extraordinary supplement for the lowest pensions in 2026. However, there is a condition for this amount to be deposited into retirees’ accounts: the evolution of public accounts.
