The individual who died on Sunday after falling at a hotel in Ibiza is not, in fact, Portuguese, contrary to initial reports.
The information regarding the lack of Portuguese nationality was confirmed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The authority explained that the victim “only possesses a Brazilian passport,” and there is “no Portuguese citizen by that name.”
Efforts are ongoing to verify these details with the same ministry.
Initial Spanish media reports suggested the young man was of Portuguese descent. However, according to g1, which identifies the victim as Lucca Cambraia Braga Ferreira, it is his father who resides in Portugal.
The alarm was raised at 17:45 (16:45 in Lisbon) after Lucca Ferreira fell from a height equivalent to the hotel’s first floor. The impact caused head injuries that were ultimately fatal, with death being declared on-site. This information was provided by the victim’s grandfather, Luiz Antônio Ferreira.
The young man, reported by g1 to be 26 years old, was on vacation and resided in Barra do Piraí, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.
Luiz Antônio Ferreira also clarified that it is Lucca’s father who lives in Portugal and that he has traveled to Spain to arrange for the body’s return to Brazil.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil has been contacted and stated that they are monitoring the situation and providing assistance to the victim’s family. The case is under investigation, and further details about the circumstances of the death are not yet available.
