A case of avian influenza was confirmed on Tuesday in a yellow-legged gull, as reported by the Directorate-General for Food and Veterinary (DGAV) today.
On Wednesday, it was announced that an outbreak had been confirmed in the union of the parishes of Alcácer do Sal and Santa Susana, in the Setúbal District.
The outbreak was detected in a domestic coop with chickens, hens, ducks, and turkeys.
The affected animals were culled, and the area was cleaned and disinfected.
Poultry farms within the 10-kilometer restriction zone around the outbreak are under surveillance.

The DGAV highlighted the “persistent circulation” of the avian flu virus and reiterated the importance of following biosafety measures and good production practices.
Contact between domestic and wild birds should be prevented, and hygiene procedures for facilities, equipment, and materials should be reinforced.
