A 34-year-old man was detained on Wednesday by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) on suspicion of being the “alleged co-author of a murder” in Amareleja, Moura municipality. The victim was the suspect’s brother, and the incident stemmed from “disagreements over cattle dealings”.
The PJ stated in a Friday press release that the crime occurred on June 10 and has already led to the arrest of the victim’s father.
“The victim was shot with a shotgun, causing severe abdominal injuries that led to his death”, the note reads, adding that “the crime was motivated by disagreements over cattle dealings among family members, father and two sons“.
Two days later, on June 12, “the other suspect, the victim’s 67-year-old father, was apprehended, strongly implicated in the crime’s execution”.
The 67-year-old man was taken into custody this morning at a farm on the outskirts of Moura by the Polícia Judiciária. The detainee, suspected of fatally shooting his 45-year-old son, will appear before the competent judicial authorities for a preliminary hearing on Friday.

“As investigative procedures continued, new evidence strongly indicates the now-detained acted in co-authorship,” clarified the authority.
The suspect was located at a campsite in Moura and detained by the PJ, with cooperation from the Territorial Post of Reguengos de Monsaraz of the National Republican Guard (GNR).
After appearing before the competent judicial authorities for an initial judicial hearing, the man was subjected to the strictest restrictive measure of preventive detention.
The investigation is led by the Prosecutor’s Office of the General Competence Court of Moura.
