“I and my driver are grateful for the support from many Portuguese people, from the President of the Republic to ordinary citizens, who expressed concern over the consequences of a car accident involuntarily involving the vehicle we were in. Fortunately, nothing happened to us, although we regret the accident itself and the severe consequences it had on the driver of one of the vehicles,” wrote the former president in a statement sent to the Lusa news agency.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa released an official statement to inform that Eanes and his driver are “in perfect health” following a traffic accident this morning on the IC1 in Alcácer do Sal, involving two heavy goods vehicles and two light vehicles.
“The President of the Republic has been informed that President Ramalho Eanes, like his driver, is in perfect health after the traffic accident in which their vehicle was involved this morning,” stated the note from Palácio de Belém.
According to the same statement, “President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa conveyed his concern and solidarity, feeling reassured with the guarantees that the general was well and without any consequences from the accident.”
The former President of the Republic, Ramalho Eanes, was involved in a road accident on the morning of Thursday, July 17, on the IC1 in Alcácer do Sal. Despite the scare, he and his driver emerged unscathed.
The RTP reported today that the official vehicle of the former President of the Republic was involved in a morning accident on the IC1 in Alcácer do Sal with two heavy goods vehicles and two light vehicles, from which Ramalho Eanes and the driver emerged unscathed and continued their journey.
According to RTP, the accident resulted in two minor injuries.
