After the defeat, Ana Mendes Godinho says that Sintra can count on her

“Naturally, I congratulate Dr. Marco Almeida on his election and wish him the best because what we all want is indeed the best for the municipality of Sintra, and therefore, we will always be at the service of the people,” stated the PS/Livre coalition candidate for the Sintra City Council.

The former socialist minister, speaking to supporters in Massamá after calling Marco Almeida to congratulate him on his victory, despite the final results from six of the 15 most populous parishes still pending, assured that Sintra can “always count” on her, and spoke of the “enormous pride” in the “extraordinary path” taken “together.”

“I truly believe it was also a way to put Sintra in the place it deserves, the prominent place that ensures the 400,000 people living in Sintra have a voice and the ability to have their real needs met,” yet “also with the dream and ambition for the future,” she added.

The candidate thanked her family, the campaign team, for always believing in the project they presented for the municipality, João Soares, who accepted the “extraordinary mission” to run for the Municipal Assembly, the “always unconditional support of the secretary-general, José Luís Carneiro, Livre, which was part of the coalition in a “fantastic” way, and the parish candidates.

Mendes Godinho also expressed gratitude to the mayor, Basílio Horta, for always standing by her side and “for all his mission over these years in the municipality of Sintra,” and to “all the people of the municipality,” who were the inspiration and the “daily oxygen” and who “always provided inexhaustible energy” to strive every day to “do more.”

“It was a pride and continues to be an enormous pride to be part of this journey, this mission in the service of the people, always the people, this was always indeed our mission, in this path we believe in so much, because we truly believe this is a project and the people we serve have everything to ensure that Sintra truly has everything to be one of Portugal’s great driving forces,” she emphasized.

The current executive, presided over by Basílio Horta, who served three terms and could not run again, comprises five elected from the PS, three from the PSD, one from the CDS-PP, one from the CDU, and one independent (ex-Chega).

The candidates for Sintra City Council this Sunday included Ana Mendes Godinho (PS/Livre), Marco Almeida (PSD/IL/PAN), Pedro Ventura (CDU, coalition PCP/PEV), Maurício Rodrigues (CDS-PP/PPM/ADN), Rita Matias (Chega), Tânia Russo (BE), and Júlio Gourgel Ferreira (ND).
