After the storm comes the calm. Rain will give a respite next week.

The period of heavy rainfall across the country is slated to ease between November 3 and 9, according to forecasts by the Portuguese Institute for Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), although an exception is expected on Wednesday.

“The week from November 3 to 9 will be influenced by the passage of frontal systems with moderate activity, with expected precipitation accumulations being lower than those observed in the week ending on Sunday,” stated the IPMA in a Friday release.

The agency also noted, “a significant positive anomaly in precipitation is expected only in the northern coastal region, with weekly accumulations up to +15 mm compared to what is usual for this time of year.”

However, on Wednesday, November 5, a frontal surface is anticipated to bring “moderate precipitation, temporarily strong, accompanied by strong winds, with a greater impact on the northern and central regions.”

Regarding air temperature, these “should be above the usual values for the time of year, particularly in the more inland areas.”

“Thus, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 13°C and 21°C in the northern and central inland regions, while the southern region and coastal areas are likely to experience maximum temperatures between 18°C and 23°C,” detailed the IPMA.

In terms of minimum temperature, forecasts suggest “it should range between 4°C and 11°C in the northern and central inland regions, [and] between 8°C and 13°C in the southern region, with coastal areas likely to see values between 7°C and 16°C.”

The scenario will be similar in the Madeira archipelago, where maximums will range between 15°C and 22°C, while minimums are expected to be between 9°C and 15°C.

In the Azores archipelago, maximum temperatures are predicted to vary between 18°C and 25°C, while minimums will hover between 13°C and 20°C.
