The announcement from the executive indicates that the PEPAC application call is extended for six months.
The VITIS program, aimed at revitalizing Azorean viticulture, will receive two million euros, with applications open from December 2 to January 9, 2026.
“Together, the two instruments represent 26 million euros to strengthen agricultural investment,” it was stated.
This information about the two programs supporting the Azores’ agricultural sector was presented last Friday by the President of the Regional Government, José Manuel Bolieiro, at the opening session of the XI Autumn Holstein Frisian Cattle Competition at the São Miguel Exhibition Park in Sant’Ana.
Bolieiro further mentioned that starting in 2026, “payments to farmers will be made in euros and following a calendar similar to POSEI [Specific Options Program to address Remoteness and Insularity],” ensuring “greater predictability and stability for farm income.”
Accompanied by the Regional Secretary of Agriculture and Food, António Ventura, José Manuel Bolieiro emphasized that the competition “clearly affirms the excellence of the Azores brand,” highlighting the “commitment of producers and the importance of the genetic potential developed in the region.”
The President of the Azorean government reminded in his speech that the agricultural sector “remains an essential pillar of regional identity and economy, supported by generations of farmers.”
The regional executive leader further highlighted the contribution of the agricultural association movement, whose credibility has been “fundamental for the sector’s success and the islands’ food autonomy.”
In terms of public policies, José Manuel Bolieiro “highlighted the recently introduced administrative simplification measures aimed at reducing bureaucracy and accelerating investment processes.”
Among the changes, he mentioned the elimination of maximum investment limits, mandatory minimum areas, and deemed unnecessary economic-financial studies, as well as the simplification of proof procedures (now requiring only the presentation of the invoice).
Additionally, since 2023, the support rate increased to 80%, “enhancing the investment capacity of the Azorean farms.”
