Águas do Algarve, S.A., (AdA) has been investing heavily in the construction of photovoltaic plants, mainly for self-consumption, which allow reducing the dependence on energy from the public electricity grid. The company owns 3 photovoltaic plants, with a total installed capacity of 1.2 MWp. At this stage, 4 more plants are being installed.
In addition to these units, Águas do Algarve also has more than fifty facilities equipped with photovoltaic micro-production units.
It is the company’s goal to increase its own production of 100% renewable energy, mainly for self-consumption, in order to achieve energy neutrality in the operations of the Águas de Portugal group by 2030, in an estimated investment of 44.8 million euros, between 2021 and 2030, with the installation of green energy production plants, from renewable energy sources, with special focus on wind, hydro and reinforcement of solar energy.
A photovoltaic plant for self-consumption will also be installed at the future desalination plant in the Algarve using the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) to enable AdA to maintain its energy neutrality objectives.
