The “Parlamento Próximo” initiative, launched by José Pedro Aguiar-Branco during the previous legislative session, aims to bridge the gap between Portugal’s Assembly of the Republic, a sovereign body, and local entities across various electoral districts. It has previously visited the districts of Vila Real, Leiria, Guarda, Évora, Faro, and Bragança.
In Santarém, as customary, the president of the Assembly of the Republic will be accompanied by deputies elected from this constituency in the last elections: Isaura Morais, Ricardo Oliveira, Inês Barroso, and Ricardo Carlos, from the PSD; Pedro Correia, José Dotti, and Catarina Salgueiro, from Chega; and Hugo Costa and Marcos Perestrello, from the PS.
At 09:00, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco will hold a meeting with the district’s municipal mayors at Santarém’s Town Hall, after which statements to the press are scheduled.
At 11:49, from Santarém station, he will take a train to Entroncamento, followed by a visit to the National Railway Museum.
In the afternoon, in the municipality of Vila Nova da Barquinha, there will be a cultural program, including a visit to the Castle of Almourol.
The day concludes in the mid-afternoon in Tomar, with a meeting with students from the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar, also involving the deputies elected from the Santarém district.
