Air France-KLM goes from loss to profit of 401 million in the first half.

In a statement, the company announced it had significantly improved its operating result to 409 million euros, compared to 24 million euros the previous year.

This operational result was concentrated in the second quarter, with 736 million euros, which offset losses incurred between January and March.

The group’s half-year revenue, one of the three major European entities expressing interest in the privatization of TAP, increased by 6.9% to 15.608 billion euros, aided by a 3.8% rise in passenger traffic.

The Franco-Dutch group’s various brands transported 49,067,000 passengers in the first half of the year, and their aircraft operated at a load factor of 86.9%.

In terms of long-haul flights, there was a 1.4% increase in passenger numbers, mainly driven by routes to North America (+2.9%), Latin America (+6.2%), and the Caribbean and Indian Ocean destinations (+4.1%), which offset declines in Asia and the Middle East (-3.8%) and Africa (-0.3%).

Activity for the Air France and KLM brands increased by 4.6%, while the low-cost subsidiary Transavia saw a 11.3% rise in passenger numbers in the half-year.

“Although the international context remains complex, Air France-KLM continues to demonstrate resilience and is well-positioned to achieve its objectives,” stated the group’s CEO, Benjamin Smith, in a statement.
