The Judicial Police (PJ) arrested an airline employee on suspicion of committing the crime of illicit drug trafficking.

In a statement, the PJ said that “due to his ease of movement and access”, the suspect “took the drugs from inside Lisbon Airport to the outside”.

Around 150,000 individual doses of cocaine were also seized from a flight from South America.

“The arrest followed an investigation by the PJ’s National Unit for Combating Drug Trafficking into the activities of criminal groups dedicated to bringing drug products into Portugal via regular airline flights. In this operation, the PJ had the support of the Airport Security Division of Humberto Delgado Airport of the Public Security Police,” reads the note.

The 33-year-old suspect was remanded in custody.

Another source linked to the case told Lusa that the suspect is a Ryanair employee.
