The film festival concluded on Sunday, awarding recognition to Aguilar’s fiction feature film, which was in the official competition. Albano Jerónimo received the Best Actor award, and Rui Xavier was honored for Cinematography Direction.
Starring Albano Jerónimo and Isabel Abreu as a couple nearing their 20th wedding anniversary, the film also features Eduardo Aguilar as their teenage son.
The film portrays a family in grief and turmoil, striving not to be overwhelmed by the loss of a daughter, described by Sandro Aguilar as “the vortex of a storm” in an interview when the film was featured in January at the Rotterdam Film Festival in the Netherlands.
“The question I’m answering is how to fight against this gravitational force pulling us down. The answer I sought through the film, regarding a couple in this family microcosm, is: We escape through fantasy […], inventions, games, and farces,” he stated.
‘Primeira Pessoa do Plural’ is Sandro Aguilar’s third feature film, produced by O Som e a Fúria, and it is set to premiere in Portuguese cinemas at the beginning of 2026.
