A man with an outstanding arrest warrant was detained on Friday in Albufeira, in the district of Faro.
According to a statement released on Saturday, the arrest occurred as a result of an investigation.
“Following reports of several violent robberies in the city of Albufeira and other locations, the military personnel from the Albufeira Criminal Investigation Unit undertook various investigative efforts that led to locating and arresting the suspect,” reads the note from the National Republican Guard (GNR).
The military reports that it was possible to determine that the suspect had an outstanding arrest warrant for serving one year and two months of effective prison sentence for the same type of crime, “therefore the detainee was taken to the Silves Prison Establishment.”
During the operation, it was possible to seize various materials, including two mobile phones, 48 doses of MDMA, 15 ecstasy pills, and two doses of marijuana.
“This action results from the effort and increased patrolling carried out by the Guard to ensure the maintenance of public order and tranquility, as well as combating crime in the municipality of Albufeira, particularly in areas with a higher influx of people,” the GNR note further states.
