Alexandra Leitão promises to adopt measures in Lisbon “within the first 30 days”

A political rally held at the Casal Vistoso sports complex in Alto do Pina saw the leader of a coalition involving four parties (PS, Livre, BE, and PAN) kick off the event with confidence, declaring “isto vai,” which was met with applause.

During the event, the leader outlined a plan for the first month in office, which includes creating a support fund for victims of the Glória elevator accident, filing an injunction against increased flights at Lisbon airport, approving a local accommodation regulation, and launching a significant urban hygiene operation in the city.

The speaker emphasized the coalition’s chances of winning, aiming to “return the city to Lisbon’s residents” and “remove Carlos Moedas,” the current president and candidate representing the PSD, CDS-PP, and IL coalition.

She appealed for votes “for the best program and most capable candidates” in Lisbon and expressed gratitude to coalition partners from “four parties and many independents,” focusing on a collective vision for “a fairer, more cohesive, more equal city, with better housing, mobility, more care, cleanliness, and greenery.”

Addressing the audience of about a thousand people, appreciation was extended to partners who united “for the love of Lisbon,” placing the city’s interests above their own.

Highlighting the timely unification of the four parties, she remarked: “Together, we are indeed stronger.”

Aiming to “give hope to Lisbon’s residents,” Alexandra Leitão described the upcoming election as “decisive,” criticizing the current mayor for failures in housing, urban hygiene, and mobility, asserting that “Lisbon deserves much more” and doesn’t need “unicorns.”

Leading the Viver Lisboa coalition, she promised to be “demanding with everyone, without allowing scapegoating, starting with the city council.”

Prior to the speech, a video showcasing the candidate’s life journey was presented, with support evident from several former ministers of socialist governments, including Pedro Siza Vieira, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, Eduardo Cabrita, Graça Fonseca, and Vieira da Silva.

The upcoming municipal elections on Sunday feature candidates such as Alexandra Leitão, Carlos Moedas (PSD/CDS-PP/IL), João Ferreira (CDU – PCP/PEV), Bruno Mascarenhas (Chega), Ossanda Líber (Nova Direita), José Almeida (Volt), Adelaide Ferreira (ADN), Tomaz Ponce Dentinho (PPM/PTP) and Luís Mendes (RIR).

The current municipal executive includes seven elected from the “New Times” coalition (PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/Aliança), seven from the “More Lisbon” coalition (PS/Livre), two from CDU, and one from BE.
