The yellow warning issued covers the period between 12:00 on Saturday and 21:00 on Sunday, during which “persistence of high maximum temperature values” is expected in the southernmost region of Portugal, stated the IPMA in a communiqué.
Yellow warnings for maximum temperature in Faro are issued when thermometers fluctuate between 33 and 37 degrees, as established by the IPMA in their warning parameterization tables published on their website.
In light of the forecast temperatures potentially reaching 37 degrees, the Directorate-General of Health recommends regular water consumption, wearing loose and fresh clothing, and using sunscreen every two hours.
Exposure to the sun is also discouraged between 11:00 and 17:00, with special care advised for the elderly, children, and chronic patients, who should remain in cooler, sun-protected environments, according to health authorities.
