Aliens law? “It will not be through Chega that we won’t have a solution”

The Chega party was the first to be received by the government on Wednesday. After the meeting, Rita Matias informed journalists that regarding the foreign and nationality law, “a work methodology was defined by the government” to “address these matters at two different times.”

In September, efforts will be made “to find solutions to what was stated by the Constitutional Court regarding the foreign law,” with the deputy highlighting that “Chega is naturally not comfortable with what they heard.”

“It was confirmed by the minister responsible that there’s a call effect happening both at AIMA and in the courts, and that’s why solutions should have been found yesterday,” Matias emphasized. “Once again, we want to reinforce our stance against a decision by the Constitutional Court that was not a legal decision – it was, above all, a political decision,” she added.

Rita Matias also stated that Chega is “available to resolve the decree.” “Of course, for us, the more restrictive this decree is, the better, but we will not be the ones to prevent a solution. Even if it is not the perfect solution, even if it is not the solution a Chega government would adopt, we will collaborate to resolve what the Constitutional Court said needed to be corrected,” she stated.
