During the month of May, the Municipal Property Tax (IMI) is due for payment. This tax can be settled either in a single payment or in installments, depending on the total amount owed.
The Portuguese Tax Authority (AT) specifies that in May, individuals must pay:
- a single installment for amounts up to 100 euros, or
- the first installment for amounts over 100 euros.
What if you wish to pay the entire amount at once even if it exceeds 100 euros?
“In situations where the tax exceeds 100 euros, the payment notice for the first installment will include two payment references: one for the first installment and the other for the total tax amount,” explains the AT in a post shared on the social media platform Facebook.
