All roads cut off in the city of Porto have been reopened.

The situation was “normalized” at the mentioned locations between 09:50 and 10:00.

“Due to flooding on public roads, there was also a need to block traffic on other roads in the city, namely on Avenida Antunes Guimarães, but these situations were quickly resolved,” stated the Public Relations source from the Porto Metropolitan Command of the PSP.

A source from Porto City Hall indicated that the severe weather early this morning caused around 70 incidents in Porto, with the “most critical” recorded on the Via de Cintura Interna, where a rescue operation for an elderly woman was necessary.

“Between 20:00 on Thursday and 07:00 today, approximately 70 incidents were recorded, mostly involving street flooding and structural collapses, with no significant damage to report. The peak of the incidents was around 06:00,” the source explained.

The “most critical situation occurred on the VCI, near the Boavista exit towards Arrábida-Freixo, where water accumulation caused road blockage, affecting several vehicles.”

“It was necessary to rescue an elderly woman from a vehicle that was trapped and in hypothermia; she was assisted at the site,” they stated.

The source from Porto City Hall added that Avenida Gustavo Eiffel, along the Douro River waterfront, was also closed but has since reopened to traffic.
