The 40th Almada Theater Festival starts today.
40 years of Almada Festival, where the word has always been, resounding on every stage, in every place in the theater, Rodrigo Francisco, the director of Almada Festival, really wants to put the spotlight on the word and the words of literature in the theater.
This edition of the 40th anniversary of the Almada Festival will pay tribute to João Mota, who also brings to the stage Don’t walk naked through the house, by Feydeau, the comedy, the frenzy and the absurdity of these days,
in João Mota’s 65-year career.
The program has creations by some directors already known to the Festival, Peter Stein, a figure of German staging, who gives life to Harold Pinter’s “The Birthday”, to be performed on July 12 on the big stage at Escola D. António da Costa.
Also in Almada, the presence of Englishman Declan Donnellan, who works on one of the texts of universal dramaturgy: “La vida es sueño”, by Pedro Calderón de La Barca. The show will be presented on July 17 and 18 at Teatro Municipal Joaquim Benite.
The Almada Theatre Company will premiere “Calvary”, with text and direction by Rodrigo Francisco, a play about “theater within theater”.
In a long menu of theater, for this edition Rodrigo Francisco also highlights the other programming with dance, new circus, music, and plastic arts.
The theater festival is back, with twenty performances in fifteen days in Almada.
