“Mozart’s music is magical, so magical that it is said to produce the ‘Mozart effect’ on children who listen to it: babies stop crying and become cheerful, older ones don’t fuss about eating their soup, and the even older children do their schoolwork quickly and well,” reads the synopsis of the show created by the visual artist and the actress and director.
“The truth is that babies understand they cannot hear the music if they’re screaming, and older children want to finish their soup and homework as quickly as possible to then peacefully enjoy Mozart’s magical music,” adds a statement from CTA on the new creation dedicated to classical music.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) was born in Salzburg, Austria, showing an early talent for music.
At 3, he could play piano and compose little melodies, and by 5, he was already a true composer, adds CTA about the composer who, during his childhood, traveled across Europe with his parents and sister to play piano in palaces and theaters, for kings and queens.
More than 600 pieces, including symphonies, concerts, operas, and much chamber music, which continue to be performed worldwide, complete the composer’s repertoire.
The show is on stage in the rehearsal room of the Joaquim Benite Municipal Theatre in Almada and can be seen until December 21, with performances on Saturdays at 4 p.m., and Sundays at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Following the sessions, there will be the usual Question time on stage, a philosophy initiative aimed at children, coordinated by Paula Barroso, with an additional cost of one euro.
The set and costumes are by Pedro Proença and the lighting design by José Carlos Nascimento.
Performing in Mozart’s Magical Music are Diana Linguiça, Inês Saramago, Pedro Walter, and Rafael Balão.
