The daily accident report from ANSR for November 27 indicates that there have been 7,123 more accidents this year compared to the same period last year (an increase of 5.5%), while the number of fatalities has decreased by 10.8% (47 fewer deaths).
Traffic accidents on Portuguese roads also resulted in 2,538 serious injuries, 33 more than the same period in 2024 (an increase of 1.3%), and 40,069 minor injuries (730 fewer).
The ANSR’s figures do not yet include the six youths who died early today after their car caught fire following a crash in Lisbon, nor the two people who died on Saturday when a vehicle fell into the Pedrógão Grande river beach in Leiria.
According to the National Road Safety Authority, Lisbon is the district with the most accidents (22,568), followed by Porto (21,752) and Aveiro (10,081). Lisbon and Porto also have the highest number of fatalities, with 44 and 41 deaths, respectively, followed by Setúbal (32).

The six people who died in a car fire early Sunday morning in Lisbon included “three women and three men,” said Police Commissioner Dinarte Diniz to the press. The vehicle, a BMW 520, “hit a curb and then swerved.”
ANSR’s data pertains to deaths declared at the accident scene or en route to the hospital.
