
A recent Eurobarometer survey revealed that 42% of EU citizens surveyed believe it is crucial for cultural workers and artists to receive better remuneration and improved working conditions.
Similarly, 43% of Europeans express concern over the protection of cultural heritage, threatened by conflicts, natural disasters, and climate change, whereas 45% find making culture more accessible essential.
The survey also highlights that eight out of ten EU citizens prefer content created by humans over artificial intelligence, expressing concerns about the impact of generative AI on artists’ wages.
In the survey, 49% of respondents reported engaging in artistic activities over the past year, although the Eurobarometer does not specify what constitutes artistic activities.
Portugal and Finland are where artistic freedom is most believed to be respected, with 92% thinking artists can express themselves without fear of censorship from national authorities or other groups.
The EU-wide percentage stands at 77%.
