A Mercadona is set to launch in Lisbon this month with the opening of a supermarket in Alta de Lisboa. The inauguration is scheduled for November 13.
“Mercadona will open a new supermarket in Lisbon on November 13, at 09:00, on Rua Hermínio da Palma Inácio, in Alta de Lisboa,” announced the Spanish group in a statement.
This new opening, as explained, “marks a significant step in Mercadona’s expansion, as it represents the brand’s arrival in the city of Lisbon, six years after starting its expansion in Portugal.”
Mercadona also mentioned that “this new supermarket will create approximately 90 new stable and quality jobs, with permanent contracts from day one, thus contributing to local employment.”
The new store of the Spanish supermarket group is located in Amial, Porto, and will open on November 27. Five years after Mercadona’s arrival in Porto, this will be the fourth store to open in the municipality.

“The new facilities will include a corporate office, complementing the office already opened in Vila Nova de Gaia since 2020, where the company has its headquarters in Portugal,” the statement read.
The store “will have a sales area of about 1,900 m2, with wide aisles for comfortable shopping, divided into sections such as Delicatessen, Fishmonger, Pastry and Bakery, Perfumery, Butchery, Fruits and Vegetables, and Ready-to-Eat,” the statement added.
“The opening of this new supermarket reflects the continued national expansion plan of Mercadona, reaching closer to the ‘Chefs’ (customers) who have long requested a store in the capital,” it was further stated.
Two new supermarkets in the city of Lisbon will create 180 jobs.

Mercadona to Open Another Store in Lisbon This Year
It is noted that this opening in Lisbon will not be the only one this year, as the Spanish brand plans to open another supermarket in Quinta do Lambert, in Lumiar, as announced by the company in April.
“This plan confirms that it is in 2025 that Mercadona arrives in the city of Lisbon, where it plans to open two stores. One of the stores, in Alta de Lisboa, will also host a new corporate office of the company, complementing the one in Vila Nova de Gaia, where the company has its headquarters in Portugal. The second store will be located in Quinta do Lambert, in Lumiar,” the document stated at the time.
The Spanish brand will open 10 new supermarkets this year, aiming to end 2025 with a network of 70 stores nationally. The first opening is scheduled for March.
