The ULS Amadora-Sintra has issued a statement updating its previous information on the National Health Service (SNS) portal. This amendment corrects earlier details, noting that the gynecology and obstetrics emergency department at the Amadora-Sintra Hospital will remain operational this Friday, May 2, as it was on the previous day. Patient care is to be preceded by a referral from CODU/INEM and will continue in this manner over the weekend.

Information from the SNS portal, accessed by Lusa at 11:30 this morning, had initially reported that the emergency service would be closed on Saturday and Sunday. However, the hospital confirms its operational status and the requirement for prior urgent patient referrals from the National Institute for Medical Emergency (INEM), to ensure proper patient guidance during this period.

The pediatric emergency services at Amadora-Sintra will also continue with the referral system over the weekend, operating from midnight to 8:00 AM and from 8:00 PM to midnight, limited to internal emergencies or cases referred by INEM or through the SNS 24 hotline.

Further details on the SNS portal indicate the availability of approximately 130 emergency services nationwide over the weekend, along with about 30 gynecology and obstetrics departments functioning under a pilot project, which necessitates previous contact with the SNS 24 line.

The current constraints in emergency services are attributed mainly to a shortage of specialist doctors essential for staffing, particularly during holiday periods, such as summer, year-end, and extended weekends.

Health authorities urge the public to contact the SNS24 hotline at 808 24 24 24 for proper guidance before heading to an emergency facility.
