The Local Health Unit Amadora-Sintra has launched an internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a pregnant woman who visited the hospital on Wednesday for a consultation, during which hypertension was detected, the institution announced.
Following the report of the woman’s death, the ULS Amadora-Sintra stated in a communiqué that the 38-week pregnant woman, originally from Guinea-Bissau, arrived at the emergency department at approximately 1:50 a.m. today. She was transported by an INEM team in a state of cardiorespiratory arrest.
“Upon entering the service, an emergency cesarean section was immediately performed, with the baby being born at 1:56 a.m., and is currently under medical observation with a very guarded prognosis,” ULS reported.
The communiqué further detailed that the woman visited the Amadora-Sintra hospital on Wednesday “asymptomatic” for a routine check-up, during which mild hypertension was identified.
According to ULS, following clinical protocol, the patient was referred internally to the Obstetrics Emergency, where, after undergoing several diagnostic tests, she was discharged with a recommendation for admission at 39 weeks of gestation.
The institution has opened “an internal investigation to determine all the circumstances associated with the event.”
The Local Health Unit Amadora/Sintra “deeply regrets” the patient’s death and expressed condolences to her family.
