An American woman on vacation in Portugal claims she was kidnapped by an Uber driver in Lisbon early today and released only in Almada, according to the Public Security Police (PSP).
A source from the Setúbal District Command of the PSP reported that the victim stated she intended to continue to another hotel in Lisbon after dropping off two friends at a hotel in the city center. However, the driver allegedly forced her to the south bank of the Tagus River.
The victim informed the PSP that the driver began acting strangely and drove aggressively once she was alone in the vehicle, ultimately taking her against her will across the Tagus River. She was then allowed to leave the vehicle on Rua Eduardo Viana in Almada, Setúbal district.
The PSP added that the woman panicked when she realized she was being taken to an unfamiliar location, although despite the driver’s unexpected behavior, there was no attempt of assault or violation.
The case is under investigation by the Judicial Police of Setúbal.
