Amount of new consumer loans rises 1.8% in August

Provisional data released today by the central bank indicate a decline in new consumer credit in August compared to the previous month. New personal loan amounts decreased by 14.4% to 315 million euros.

The value of new auto loan operations dropped by 17.4% to 280 million euros, while credit card and overdraft amounts fell by 6.5% to 112 million euros.

In August, 135,421 consumer credit contracts were signed, which is 9.9% less than in the same month of 2024 and 1.8% less than in July.

There were 71,727 credit card and overdraft agreements (a 6.5% year-on-year decrease), 45,289 personal loans (a 6.6% decrease), and 18,405 auto loans (a 1.7% decrease) signed in the eighth month of the year.
