An Advent Calendar and 5 more books to get into the Christmas spirit

December may officially start on Monday, but commercial displays, street lights, Christmas trees, and even radio stations are already indicating the arrival of the festive season.

If you have children at home, your tree is likely already decorated, with “baubles here and there,” “twinkling lights,” and Christmas music on repeat.

To enhance the festivities (and ensure you and your children have everything you need), Notícias ao Minuto has compiled a selection of books to help the whole family embrace the Christmas spirit.

The first recommendation is the Advent Calendar by Jacarandá Editora. It features 24 windows with 24 books, promising a Christmas full of stories! Suitable for children aged 3 to 6, it is available for purchase at 27.90 euros.

Five more Christmas book suggestions for children:

  • “O Natal do Pequeno Pisco” by Jan Fearnley
Also for children aged 3 to 6, Jacarandá published this book, based on a 25-year-old story about generosity, one of the core values of Christmas.
  • “Paddington – A Surpresa de Natal” by

    Michael Bond

For over 60 years, the adventures of the bear Paddington have captivated children worldwide. Combined with Christmas, this fluffy character’s story, released in October by Bertrand, is sure to delight young readers, especially those aged 3 to 6.

  • “Palavras cheias de amor” by Jake Biggin
Christmas is also about friendship, making this book an excellent choice for the entire family. Published by Bertrand, it explores the bonds of affection between a girl and her dog.
  • “Nina e a Rena de Natal” by Nicola Killen
This calm and wondrous story, perfect for bedtime reading in the days leading up to Christmas, is published by Minutos de Leitura. It follows a curious girl who embarks on a journey with her reindeer friend to discover a mysterious sound she heard… right on Christmas Eve. What will unfold?
  • “Gaspar e a Carta de Natal Perdida” by Alex T. Smith
This book, published by Nuvem de Letras, is ideal to start reading on December 1st. With 24 and a half chapters, it promises to inspire throughout Advent. Its message of hope and tenderness encourages celebrating the Christmas spirit and creating family memories.
