Ana Moura, José James and Daddy G at the MIMO festival in Amarante this week

In its sixth edition in Portugal, the festival originating from Brazil presents a “high-level” lineup featuring artists from 13 different nationalities, several of whom are appearing exclusively for MIMO, according to the festival’s director and founder, Lu Araújo, in a statement.

The MIMO festival, taking place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, doesn’t focus on a single venue.

“The festival occupies the city. People can enjoy the entire city. It’s very special happening there, a beautiful city,” Lu Araújo stated.

The lineup includes artists such as Ana Moura, José James, Daddy G (in a DJ set format), Fogo Fogo, Juliana Linhares, Aja Monet, Chief Adjuah (formerly known as Christian Scott), Momi Maiga, Natascha Falcão, Sona Jobarteh, and Roberto Fonseca.

According to Lu Araújo, there is always an effort to feature renowned artists while also making space for new artists to ensure the scene remains fresh.

MIMO performances are centered in Parque Ribeirinho but will also take place at the Centro Cultural de Amarante, which will host workshops and masterclasses.

The festival program also includes guided tours, discussions, a creative fair, and workshops for children and families.

MIMO first occurred in 2004 in Olinda, Brazil. Since then, 61 editions have been organized.

This year, an edition took place in Rio de Janeiro, and after Amarante, MIMO will be held in Olinda and São Paulo.

Last year, about 70,000 people attended MIMO Portugal, promoted by the Municipality of Amarante.
