ANAC authorizes night flights and entities support passengers in Lisbon

The Portuguese aviation authority, ANAC, granted permission at the government’s request for all nighttime flights to ensure swift recovery from delays, confirmed Luís Montenegro in a national address from Lisbon.

ANAC’s official representative stated no further information is available at this time. A 2004 decree permits a maximum of 91 weekly aircraft movements and 26 daily between midnight and 6 AM, also stipulating noise level compliance for nighttime flights.

Efforts are underway to aid passengers stranded at Lisbon Airport, as emphasized by Luís Montenegro. The government, along with the Civil Protection and ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal, is implementing measures to provide food and urgent necessities to those at the airport.

The Lisbon airport terminal has reopened, yet ANA advises passengers to confirm flight statuses with airlines before heading to the location. Power restoration is progressing, aiding the recovery of standard operations in Lisbon, Porto, and Faro. ANA reinforces the need for passengers to verify flight details with airlines.

The airport authority, supported by ANEPC, has organized logistical support for passengers present at airport terminals.

A significant number of flights were canceled at Lisbon’s Humberto Delgado Airport, with several rerouted, due to a power outage affecting the Iberian Peninsula.

To assist with public order, police presence at Lisbon Airport was increased, involving officers from the Intervention Corps, as per police reports.

National airport operators activated emergency generators, maintaining essential operations in Porto and Faro, though Lisbon faces greater challenges according to an airport authority official.

REN, the national energy grid, indicated uncertainty over when normal electricity supply will be fully restored, highlighting the restoration’s complexity. The outage occurred at 11:30 AM Lisbon time.
