André Ventura leads voting intentions in a new poll. And the opponents?

André Ventura leads the presidential election poll intentions for the first time in a survey about the race to Belém.

Just over a month before the presidential elections, the DN/Aximage barometer identifies the Chega leader as the winner of the January 18 elections, with Luís Marques Mendes in second place, while Henrique Gouveia e Melo and António José Seguro see a decline.

João Cotrim Figueiredo is the candidate to succeed Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa who has seen the most significant rise since the last DN/Aximage surveys released in early November.

According to Diário de Notícias (DN), Ventura’s rise appears linked to the decline of Gouveia e Melo, who led the previous barometer.

Currently, André Ventura is at the helm of the polls with 19.1% of the voting intentions among the Portuguese, with Marques Mendes, backed by PSD and CDS, in second at 18.2%, and the admiral in third with 17.5%, a drop of 6.9% compared to the November 3 barometer.

As noted by the newspaper, these figures indicate a technical tie between the three main candidates, as the results are well within the margin of error of the barometer, which is 4%.

If these voting intentions are confirmed, two of these three candidates will proceed to the second round of the presidential elections.

Cotrim surpasses Seguro

This month’s barometer also highlights João Cotrim Figueiredo, a candidate supported by Iniciativa Liberal, with 10.5% of the voting intentions, surpassing António José Seguro, backed by PS, who only gathers 9.6%.

In contrast, candidates supported by left-wing parties have all risen since the early November survey. Catarina Martins, supported by BE, increased from 5% to 5.9%; António Filipe of CDU from 2.7% to 2.9%, and Jorge Pinto of Livre from 0.9% to 1.9%.

The presidential elections are scheduled to take place in a month, on January 18.
