Andrew died in the Elevador da Glória. He loved historical transport.

Andrew David Kenneth Young, 82, from Holyhead, Wales, is among the 16 victims of the September 3 derailment of the Elevador da Glória in Lisbon.

Authorities confirmed that the elderly man died in the tragic accident.

Andrew is the third British victim identified by UK authorities. Previously, the deaths of Kayleigh Smith and William Nelson had been confirmed by their family.

In a statement, the elderly man’s family described him as a “transport enthusiast” who died doing one of his favorite things in life.

“Andrew David Kenneth Young was known to most as Dave. He was raised in Auchterarder, Perthshire, and moved to Holyhead in 1980, where he had a long career as a customs officer. He always loved transport. During his retirement, he visited historic railways and funiculars around the world,” they shared, adding that for his children, mother, and siblings, “it is comforting” to know that his last moments were spent indulging in the hobby that brought him “so much happiness.”

Welsh police are now supporting Andrew’s family and doing everything to ensure the process proceeds as peacefully as possible. They request “privacy during this difficult time.”

On the past Wednesday, September 3, 16 people died in the Elevador da Glória derailment, and more than 20 were injured.

Among the deceased were five Portuguese individuals: the brake guard, André Marques, and four employees of the Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lisboa – Pedro Trindade, Ana Paula Lopes, Alda Matias, Sandra Coelho.

The remaining victims of the accident are of different foreign nationalities. Some of their stories are known, and each is poignant.

André Bergeron and Blandine Daux, married for over twenty years and with two children, were on their last day of vacation in Portugal when they decided to take the Elevador da Glória. They were renowned archaeologists in Canada and lost their lives in the derailment on Wednesday.

American Heather Hall was a professor at the University of Charleston, South Carolina, and, like most of the other foreign victims, was only visiting Portugal.

Kayleigh Smith, 36, and William Nelson, 44, were ending their first day of vacation in Lisbon when they decided to take the Elevador da Glória, which tragically became their last journey.

Among the foreign nationals who lost their lives in the tragic September 3 accident was a 54-year-old Ukrainian man living in Portugal under the refugee protection regime from the war. His name is not known, but it is known that he had lived in Lisbon for several years.

The accident also claimed the lives of two South Koreans, a Swiss, and a French citizen, whose identities have not yet been released.
