Angola inaugurates Cabinda Refinery budgeted at over 400 million

The manufacturing unit, overseen by Sonangol and Gemcorp, will have a processing capacity of 60,000 barrels of oil per day but will start operations with 30,000 barrels daily in the first phase.

The Cabinda Refinery, located in the Tando-Zinze municipality, 20 kilometers from the capital of the Cabinda province, will produce diesel, jet fuel, fuel, and naphtha. It aims to ensure domestic supply, reduce import dependency, and create surpluses for export, according to Sonangol.

With a total investment exceeding $473 million, of which $335 million came from international financing, the industrial venture is deemed “one of the strategic pillars of the Angolan oil industry and a symbol of confidence in the future,” and has created 3,300 direct jobs.

The new infrastructure, designed with cutting-edge technology, integrates a “zero flaring” natural gas routine burning unit, reinforcing Sonangol’s “commitment to sustainability, safety, and international best practices” and has also facilitated the qualification of 700 national employees.

The Cabinda Refinery, an Angolan enclave in the north of the country, “will be a decisive step for Angola’s energy sovereignty, consolidating Sonangol’s role as an engine of economic and social development, in line with the government’s vision for the future of the country,” highlights the Angolan oil company.
