Angola wants to double the contribution of the parts sector to 4.5% of the GDP.

Angola’s Minister of State for Economic Coordination announced the government’s ongoing implementation of programs and measures to stimulate and incentivize economic activity, with fisheries playing a central role in this process.

“The sector’s contribution to the economy should double in the next five years, reaching about 4.5% of the Gross Domestic Product,” stated José de Lima Massano during the opening of the International Conference on Fisheries and Sustainable Aquaculture (CIPAS 2025).

The Angolan official emphasized that Angola boasts an extensive Atlantic coastline of 1,650 kilometers, an Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of approximately 330,000 square kilometers of maritime area, and 77 river basins, “which represent a natural wealth of inestimable value, favoring the development of fishing communities.”

José de Lima Massano highlighted that artisanal fishing is an essential means of subsistence for many families and fish constitutes a significant component of the protein diet for many Angolans.

The minister underscored the need to accelerate investments, with private sector involvement, more infrastructure for production, logistics, and distribution, including units for processing, conservation, transformation, and packaging of fish, refrigerated transport, distribution centers, and commercialization networks.

“Manufacturing units for naval and industrial equipment, fishing artifacts, and technical capabilities for providing associated services are also needed. There is an urgent need to develop national feed production, create professional training centers, management support companies, sanitary certification, and good cultivation practices as well as digital tools that connect informal producers to the formal market,” he noted.

The Minister of State for Economic Coordination underlined that the sector presents numerous investment opportunities, noting that the regulatory and institutional environment “has seen remarkable progress and the business climate follows the same path.”

CIPAS 2025, bringing together public decision-makers, national and foreign experts, fishers, investors, and multilateral organizations, emerges as a privileged space for consultation and experience sharing, at a pivotal moment considering the development trajectory Angola is projecting for the fisheries and aquaculture sector, added José de Lima Massano.
