Animated film ‘Hurikán’ wins HaHaArt Film Fest in Pombal

Premiering in 2024, ‘Hurikán’ is a joint coproduction by Slovakia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Czech Republic, and France, telling the story of a pig who buys beer and falls in love with the saleswoman.

The HaHaArt Film Fest organization awarded ‘Hurikán’ the ‘Best Film’ prize, citing its “narrative and cinematographic complexity,” and praising its “flawless graphics and surprising animation.”

The same short film also won the Audience Award, favored by viewers.

In this fourth edition of the festival, organized by the Cineclub of Pombal, ‘Mónica e os ovos de chocolate’ by João Ferreira was awarded Best National Film for its “bizarre comedy,” complemented by the “masterful visual language, executed impressively in just two days.”

In the field of direction, the awards went to Daniel Soares for ‘Bad for a moment’ (Best National Director) and Polish Michal Toczec for ‘Be somebody’ (Best International Director).

The jury, composed of directors André Azevedo and Joana Toste, FEST – New Directors | New Cinema director Fernando Vasquez, film critic Rita Cadima de Oliveira, and writer Paulo Moreiras, decided to award honorable mentions to ‘Make me a pizza’ by American Talia Shea Levin, ‘Gender Reveal’ by Canadian Mo Matton, and ‘T-Zero’ by Portuguese Vicente Niro.

In this edition, which featured over 70 films, 34 short films competed across five competitive categories.

The HaHaArt Film Fest concludes tonight with the screening of the award-winning films at the Teatro-Cine de Pombal, starting at 9:30 PM.
