A source from the Portalegre Territorial Command of the GNR reported that, based on information gathered from the hospital in the district capital where the 29-year-old woman was taken, she succumbed to her severe injuries and passed away.
The accident, which authorities were alerted to at 9:22 PM on Saturday, occurred on National Road 244 (EN244) near Aldeia Velha in the Avis municipality, Portalegre district.
At the time, a GNR source explained that a 42-year-old man died as a result of the motorcycle veering off course, while the 29-year-old woman on the vehicle was seriously injured.
The Alto Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command also reported on Saturday night that the driver’s death was declared at the scene by the doctor in the medical emergency and resuscitation vehicle (VMER) from Portalegre of the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM).
The incident involved the mobilization of 13 operatives from the Avis firefighters, INEM, and GNR, supported by seven vehicles, including the VMER and the Immediate Life Support ambulance (SIV) from Ponte de Sor.
Attempts to contact the Local Health Unit of Alto Alentejo for updates on the injured woman’s clinical situation were unsuccessful as of 2:10 PM, despite persistent inquiries, with the death being confirmed by the GNR source.
