A new Mercadona supermarket is set to open in Frielas, Loures, on October 16, the Spanish supermarket group has announced in a statement.
“Mercadona will open a new supermarket in Frielas, Loures, on October 16 at 9:00 AM, located at Rua do Bom Jardim, nº 2,” the release stated.
The company explained that this new opening “represents an important step in strengthening Mercadona’s presence in the municipality, bringing it even closer to the ‘Chefes’ (customers).”
The Spanish group noted that “this new supermarket will create approximately 90 new stable and quality jobs, with permanent contracts from the first day, thereby contributing to local employment creation.”
The store will feature a sales area of about 1,900 m², designed with wide aisles for comfortable shopping and divided into sections such as Delicatessen, Fishery, Bakery and Pastry, Perfumery, Butchery, Fruits and Vegetables, and Ready-to-Eat, similar to the existing store in Santa Iria de Azóia,” noted the statement.
Second Supermarket in Loures (Eighth in the Lisbon District)
The company added that the “opening of this new supermarket, which will be the second in the municipality (including the opening in Santa Iria de Azóia) and the eighth for Mercadona in the Lisbon district, reflects the ongoing national expansion plan.”
Mercadona continues its expansion in Portugal with the opening of a new store in Vale Sepal, Leiria, and has already announced the next inauguration in São Gens, Matosinhos, on October 9.

Another Opening Next Month
It is worth noting that Mercadona announced last week it will open in São Gens, Matosinhos, on October 9 at 9:00 AM, located at Rua de São Gens nº 3867, in Matosinhos.
“This new supermarket will create approximately 65 new stable and quality jobs, with permanent contracts from the first day, contributing to local employment creation,” the release said.
Additionally, “the store will have a sales area of around 1,900 m², with wide aisles for a comfortable shopping experience. Customers will find all our usual sections: Delicatessen, Fishery, Bakery and Pastry, Perfumery, Butchery, Fruits and Vegetables, and Ready-to-Eat.”
With this opening, the company states that it strengthens its “commitment to growth and proximity, both locally and nationally, opening the third store in the municipality and the 25th in the Porto district, reflecting the continued national expansion plan.”
It should be noted that the Spanish company will open its first supermarkets in Lisbon city in November, located in Alta de Lisboa and Quinta do Lambert (Lumiar).
