Anti-Corruption Mechanism received 152 complaints in 2024

The Annual Activity Report for 2024 from the MENAC, recently published on the organization’s official website, provides an overview of reported activities and has been dispatched to relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Justice and the Portuguese Parliament. Of the 152 complaints registered last year, 118 involved public entities, and 34 pertained to private entities.

Only 19 complaints were forwarded to the Attorney General’s Office due to indications of criminal misconduct. An additional 66 were directed to the appropriate administrative body as they involved regulatory offenses, while 67 were dismissed for being unfounded, improbable, or repetitive.

“Following reports from the general inspections and regional inspections, the Sanctions Committee resolved in 2024 to launch 44 investigation processes concerning entities identified in these reports. Nevertheless, by the year’s end, no final resolutions had been reached,” according to a summary of the report related to MENAC’s sanctioning activities in 2024.

Established in June 2023, MENAC aims to promote transparency and integrity in public operations and ensure the effective implementation of policies designed to prevent corruption and related offenses.
