The Operation Influencer case targeting former Prime Minister António Costa will be transferred from the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Supreme Court of Justice (STJ) to the Central Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DCIAP), the defense confirmed today.

Lawyer João Lima Cluny told Lusa this afternoon that he had received information that the case against the ex-governor would be transferred to DCIAP and added that he would be applying to the STJ to be notified of the MP’s decision so that he could assess it.

The Attorney General of the Republic (PGR) also confirmed the information about the case being transferred to DCIAP, first reported by CNN.

“In the opinion of the magistrates in charge, DCIAP is competent to take on this investigation,” Lucília Gago told journalists on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new leadership of the Union of Public Prosecutors (SMMP), adding that “criminal investigations take time to progress, naturally with the desired efficiency, but they take time to finalize these investigations.”
