António Filipe formalizes candidacy for Belém: “Unite the wills”

Speaking to journalists outside the Palácio Ratton in Lisbon, former PCP deputy António Filipe expressed his intention to “unite those who identify with the values of the Constitution and the 25th of April, and who wish to see them fully realized.”

António Filipe was accompanied by his national representative, Sofia Lisboa, his district representative, Tânia Mateus, leaders from the parties supporting his candidacy, including Pedro Guerreiro of the PCP and Heloísa Apolónia of the PEV, as well as Isabel Camarinha, former general secretary of the CGTP.

“We have submitted 12,888 signatures and the candidacy is now formalized,” stated António Filipe, expressing gratitude to all the citizens who supported his candidacy.

The 62-year-old former deputy, lawyer, and member of the PCP Central Committee, positioned himself as a candidate seeking change by uniting efforts so that, as stipulated in the Constitution, the fundamental rights of citizens can be realized.

António Filipe emphasized “workers’ rights, youth rights, the right to housing, the right to health, and the right to education.”

“I believe it is a duty of the President of the Republic to do everything within their constitutional powers to bring about change, so that the Portuguese do not feel wronged, do not become impoverished while working, and do not feel the temptation to emigrate as a way to solve their problems,” he said.

“We want the Portuguese to live here under better conditions, and this is a candidacy that will fight for that change,” he asserted.
